Terms of Use

1. Agreement

These terms govern your use of the website phronara.org and of VOICE Practice, the training app at practice.phronara.org. Both are operated by The Phronara Institute LLC, a California limited liability company. By using the website, or by creating an account or using the app, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use them. Sections 2, 3, 6 and 7 apply mainly to the app.

2. Who can use it, and your account

• You must be at least 18 years old.
• Give accurate account information and keep your password private. You're responsible for activity under your account.
• Group codes are for the people your instructor or organization intends. Don't post them publicly or share them beyond that group.
• If your organization gave you access, it may also have its own rules for how you use VOICE Practice.

3. Acceptable use

Use VOICE Practice for its purpose: practicing communication with fictional scenarios. You agree not to:

• enter real names, case or incident details, health information, or other confidential or sensitive information about real people;
• use the app to harass, threaten, or harm anyone, or to create unlawful content;
• try to get around usage limits, security, or access rules, or access other people's accounts or data;
• use automated tools to access the app, or copy, scrape, or resell its content, scenarios, or feedback;
• try to reverse engineer the app or use it to build a competing product;
• try to make the AI produce content unrelated to training.

4. A training tool, not a guarantee

• Practice only. VOICE Practice helps you practice communication strategies. It doesn't replace your agency's policies, your legal obligations, tactical training, or your own judgment in real situations.
• AI-generated content. The role-player's replies, resistance scores, and feedback are generated by AI. They are estimates and can be wrong, incomplete, or inconsistent. Resistance scores aren't measurements of real people.
• No professional advice. Nothing in the app is legal, medical, psychological, or tactical advice.
• No guaranteed outcomes. Communication strategies can lower resistance, but no technique works in every situation.
• Pilot version. VOICE Practice is in an early pilot. Features may change, and the service may sometimes be unavailable.

5. Ownership

The content of phronara.org (text, frameworks, videos, images, and the Phronara name, seal, and logo) and the VOICE curriculum, scenarios, strategy guide, feedback content, software, and design of VOICE Practice belong to The Phronara Institute LLC or its licensors and are protected by copyright and other laws. You may view and share links to the website for personal, non-commercial use. We give you a personal, non-transferable permission to use the app for your own training while these terms are in effect. You may not copy, distribute, or reuse VOICE or website materials, for example in your own trainings, without our written permission.

6. Your content

Your practice responses remain yours. You give The Phronara Institute LLC permission to store and process them to run the service, show them to you and to the instructors of groups you join, and improve VOICE Practice. We use them for research only in de-identified form, as described in the Privacy Policy. If you send us suggestions or feedback, we may use them without owing you anything.

7. Usage limits, suspension, and ending your account

We may set limits on how much you can practice each month. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts the service or other users at risk. You can stop using VOICE Practice at any time and ask us to delete your account, as described in the Privacy Policy.

8. Disclaimers

THE WEBSITE AND VOICE PRACTICE ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." TO THE FULLEST EXTENT ALLOWED BY LAW, THE PHRONARA INSTITUTE LLC DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DON'T PROMISE THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE.

9. Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT ALLOWED BY LAW, THE PHRONARA INSTITUTE LLC WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY RESULT OF ACTIONS YOU TAKE IN REAL SITUATIONS. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ABOUT THE WEBSITE OR VOICE PRACTICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR IT IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR $100. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not fully apply to you.

10. Indemnity

If you misuse the website or VOICE Practice or break these terms and that leads to a claim against The Phronara Institute LLC, you agree to cover the reasonable costs of that claim, to the extent the law allows.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in San Luis Obispo County, California, unless the law requires otherwise.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the Institute and VOICE Practice grow. If we make significant changes, we'll update the effective date on this page and tell app users in the app or by email before they take effect. Continuing to use the website or app after that means you accept the updated terms.
